CURACAO CHALLENGE
APRIL 1st - APRIL 6th 2010
This year for the second time, the Curacao windsurfclub organises the Curacao Challenge. Today, March 31, I flew to Curacao after the representative of the Bonairian Governement Sports-department came to the airport to wish me luck in Curacao and France . My gear was already shipped to Curacao last week . I am looking forward to meet my friend Jamil Jonis again and have fun and action during this great event. This year I will compete
in the age-class under 18 years ( I turned 14 last January ). It will be a challenge for me to keep up with a lot of older guys/girls.
April 1st : Registration will take place , rigging and training. Most important: skippers-meeting!!
April 2nd.: I got up early to check my gear. Unfortunately during transport my Starboard
I-sonic 101 was damaged and my dad did his very best to fix it .
The winds are light so I need this board with my Hot Sails Maui GPS 7.3
We raced 3 heats in the afternoon.
Jean-Patrick and I were very close in all 3 heats. So the next days will be very competitive.
Results first day:
Tomorrow : LONG DISTANCE ....... we pray for good wind !!!!
April 3rd.
What a day, what a day. Just enough wind to get things started but the
long distance race from Sea Aquarium Beach to Marriott Beach was a go.
The starting line was a half a mile upwind from the event site but the strong
currents and little wind made it impossible for some competitors to get there.
The competitors who did make it to the starting line made for an exciting race
with a total distance of more than 6 miles of coastline.
What made the race even more exiting was that the scores count double and the
finish was on the beach. This meant that competitors first had to get their gear
on the beach and then run and touch the special Curacao Challenge promo car.
It was a exciting battle for me against Jean Patrick, but I did pass him about a
hundred metres before the beach and touched the promo-car first.
check-out the great video on my video page
Time to relax now and enjoy the afternoon on the beach with friends and sport-activities.
Afternoon races were cancelled due to wind-conditions.
Results after day 2:
April 4th:
It was a long day waiting for wind, unfortunately it did not come today but the predictions
for tomorrow are good !!! Although we did not race today we had fun on the beach and
had some photoshoots with all the competitors.
April 5th:
No wind, and slalom-races were cancelled. This afternoon we went to
another bay to do the freestyle contest. The wind went up and down, and
I could make it to the final against Felix (CUR). I became second. Tomorrow the 2nd and 3rd round of the Freestyle Challenge on Curacao.
April 6th:
The wind was up again and the freestyle spectators were screaming
and very enthausiastic during the whole second round.
I became third after Felix (2) and Youp (1).
Overall results for this years Curacao Challenge
